Rio

Rio as we have called him was a ten month old Colt when he came to join us. He arrived on the 28th June 2009 from his old home in Doncaster. He is a pleasant well mannered young chap and has already formed a good bond with out two older Geldings. He has seen the Vet and been chipped and meets the farrier when the other boys are shoed for a trim. He is eating well although has trouble focusing on the job in hand being a typical youngster.

Rio is as bold as brass and is not afraid of much and is a very inquisitive young horse. When the school was being built he was caught trying to vandalize the hymac digger. He has also been known to look in the big trailer that we bring the hay down from the main barn in while it is moving. Rio's coat will take on a definite dark grey tone this year and his tail is growing. During the cold snap he was in his stable, which did give us cause for concern, as he tried to get out of it over the door when he first arrived. This time he was grateful for the warmth and shelter with a nice bed to lay down in.

Rio has had a saddle placed on his back to check his response. He did not even seem to care. He has also had an experience with the clippers as the first stages to familiarise him with the clipping process (did not seem to care). This year we plan to start some light lunging in the school and walk him out around the area in hand while the others hack. Hopefully this will be a good experience for him building up towards breaking him in.
